ABOUT KHUSHWANT SINGH

I was once upon a merry time,
In lovely ancient cottage quaint,

Amidst tall prickly verdant pine,
Dwelt a dishevelled gentle giant.

From mount of books his stately home,
He gazed on vales and hills without:

For years he toiled, this dear old gnome,
Till long last his lights faded out.
His distant disciples galore,
Who himself never might have never seen:

Every year a vast tribe growing more,
Meets here as pilgrims to his shady shrine.
Leaders of many a hue came first;

Poets, soldiers, from abroad and close to home:
Friends and foes too on the scene soon burst,
Free thinkers in the giant’s radiance shone.

Together all do take a vow
The giant’s spirit to follow right,
Countenance no unfairness now
Or hence, along his path so bright.
